Springfield Township Snow Emergency-Updated

by Diane Cardano-Casacio & Her Team

Straight from the township's e-alert system...

Snow Emergency Remains in Effect for Springfield Township

All Township Operating Departments will be closed for business on Thursday

Thursday, January 27, 2011

All Springfield Township operating departments are closed on Thursday, January 27, 2011 due to the snow storm.  The Emergency Operations Center is open with a full compliment of staff.  A snow emergency is still in effect until further notice.  Parking along the streets and highways of the Township is prohibited once a snow emergency has been declared

Township residents are also reminded that the owners or occupants of all property in Springfield Township are required to clear ice and snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of the snowfall.  Please do not deposit snow in the street.  If a fire hydrant is located on or near your property, please consider clearing any snow that has accumulated around the hydrant so that firefighters are able to access it in an emergency.  If you are unable to remove the snow and ice from your sidewalks, the Township has assembled a list of students that are willing, for a fee, to perform this work for you.  Please contact the Township Receptionist at 215-836-7600 for a copy of the snow shoveler's list.

During a snow event, the Department of Public Works will begin plowing primary and secondary roadways, followed by neighborhood and side streets.  If your road has not been plowed for the final time, please DO NOT remove the snow from the last 5 to 6 feet of your driveway as it will be plowed in when the plow makes its final pass along the curb line.  If cars remain parked in the street throughout the storm, the street will not be plowed once the cars are removed.

Please note that if a garage, driveway or other off-street parking arrangements are not available, parking is permitted on the odd-side of the street in an odd-numbered year and on the even side of the street in an even numbered year.  Motor vehicles parked on the "wrong" side of the street may be ticketed and/or towed at the discretion of the Police Department.

During a snow emergency motorists are also asked to stay off of the roadways unless it is absolutely necessary to travel.  If you must travel, please keep back at least 50 feet from all snow removal equipment, reduce your speed, and leave a safe following distance between all other vehicles.

Your compliance and cooperation with these regulations will permit Township Highway crews to safely clear the streets of all ice and snow in a minimal amount of time.

Refuse and Recycling Collection scheduled for Thursday, January 28 is cancelled.  Refuse collection will resume on Friday, January 29.  Recycling collection for residents on the Thursday route will be completed next week on the regular collection day.  Please check the Township website or information hotline, 215-836-7600 (option #3) for updates to the refuse and recycling schedule.
