We've had an incredibly mild winter that has resulted in record high temperatures this week. In our area, temperatures are expected to get into the mid 60's today and there are a slew of ways you can take advantage of this burst of warm air:
1) Stretch Those Legs! Take a walk, go for a run or even a bike ride.
2) Get A Jump Start On Spring Cleaning! Today is a great day to pick up and sticks or twigs in your yard that have fallen over the winter.
3) Enjoy A Little More Air! Put the top down on the car, or open the sunroof.
4) Clean Your Car! Wash off all the dirt and salt from smaller winter storms.
5) Take A Deep Breath...and enjoy it, because winter is sure to return!
The Township is accepting proposals until February 20 for community planning and engineering services for West Ambler.
The selected consulting firm will be expected to develop a plan of action for West Ambler. That plan will include short-term mitigation and long-term storm water improvements. The West Ambler neighborhood is prone to flooding and was hit particularly hard during Tropical Storm Lee in September.
The work will also address the Township’s 17-acre portion of the BoRit Superfund site. The firm will facilitate community involvement in the development of reutilization options, if any, and funding sources for the land.
The Township also plans to form the West Ambler Development Committee that will work to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.
The committee will focus on addressing storm water issues and neighborhood and brownfield revitalization. The committee is expected to be formed by spring. It will include community members, elected officials and engineering and design consultants.
The committee will explore public-private partnership opportunities for revitalizing the neighborhood. The Township has already been awarded $250,000 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development for streetscape and sidewalk improvements on West Maple Avenue.
The Township is also working with Temple University's Center for Sustainable Communities, Upper Dublin Township, Ambler Borough and other government agencies on a plan to address the flooding in the neighborhood.
To check a toilet for a leak : Flush the toilet and while the reservoir is still filling, add 2 or 3 drops of food coloring to the water in the reservoir.
Wait 15-30 minutes. If the water in the bowl changes colors, the flapper valve needs to be replaced.
